Practical knowledge for Western Australia’s honey industry

Straight-talking guidance, resources and advocacy for WA honey producers, from more than ten years inside the industry.

10+ years in WA’s honey industry

Former board director, Bee Industry Council of WA

Hi, I’m Tina

I’ve spent more than ten years in Western Australia’s honey industry. I built and ran a successful honey shop here in WA, worked alongside four other Australian honey businesses, and served on the board of the Bee Industry Council of Western Australia.

Along the way, I’ve watched good producers get stuck on the same things: compliance that feels like a maze, branding that undersells a great product, and not knowing how to get their honey onto shelves or overseas.

Harvest & Hive Collective is where I share what I’ve learnt. Mostly that means free information and resources. Sometimes it means working one-on-one with a producer who’s ready for the next step.

What I focus on

Everything here comes back to one goal: a WA honey industry that’s understood, respected and commercially strong.

Education

Clear, accurate information on regulations, labelling, honey quality and the myths that still do the rounds. Written for producers, and useful for anyone who buys WA honey.

Advocacy

Speaking up for WA producers and for the value of our honey, from Jarrah and Marri to the wildflower honeys that make this state’s produce so distinctive.

Industry support

For producers ready to grow, I take on a small number of one-on-one projects in two areas: export and market access, and retail readiness.

Why WA honey is worth getting right

Western Australia’s native forests and bushland give our honey a character all its own. Jarrah honey from the South West is prized for its natural antimicrobial activity, while Marri, Karri and wildflower honeys each carry the flavour of the country they came from.

That reputation is valuable, and it’s easy to damage. Accurate labelling, honest claims and careful handling protect every producer, not just the name on the jar.
